Hyper Mode¶
Hyper Mode is a battle frenzy that a Shadow-tier Pokemon can slip into while you are fighting with it. A Pokemon in Hyper Mode fights you as much as it fights the enemy: most turns it ignores your orders outright, and if you leave it that way it collapses into Reverse Mode.
Only Shadow-tier Pokemon enter Hyper Mode, and only when they are player-owned. Corrupt and higher tiers never do, and trainer-owned Shadow Pokemon never do.
How it triggers¶
The roll happens on the move you pick, and it depends on whether that move is a Shadow Move:
| Move used | Chance | Result |
|---|---|---|
| A Shadow Move | 30% | enters a mode, split 50/50 between Hyper Mode and Reverse Mode |
| Any other move | 30% | enters Reverse Mode directly |
So Hyper Mode is only entered off a Shadow Move, at a 15% effective chance per Shadow Move used (30% to trigger, then half of those go to Hyper). When it enters, the attack that triggered it misses that turn.
What it does in battle¶
- The aura turns dark red. The Pokemon's usual purple shadow haze shifts to a dark red while it is in Hyper Mode.
- It disobeys most turns. Each turn you get a 30% chance it obeys. The other 70% of the time it ignores your order and the move fails, with an "ignored its trainer's orders!" message.
- It gets worse if ignored. After 5 turns in Hyper Mode without a successful
/call, it descends into Reverse Mode, which does real damage to itself.
Hyper Mode itself does no HP damage; the cost is the lost turns and the risk of escalation.
The Call command¶
Snap the Pokemon out of it with /call during move selection:
- The called Pokemon skips its move that turn (no move is executed).
- Its Hyper Mode (or Reverse Mode) state is relieved and stays relieved as long as it remains in battle.
- You can call each Shadow Pokemon once per turn. In a double battle with two shadows in a mode, a second
/callpicks up the other one.
/call only works during move selection, only on your own active Shadow Pokemon that is actually in a mode, and not while a Purification Shrine cutscene is running.
Held items¶
No held item changes the Hyper Mode or Reverse Mode odds. The only held items in the shadow system are the eight Pixelmon incenses, which speed up the heart gauge as you walk with a Shadow Pokemon in your party. They have nothing to do with the entry rolls.
