Catching Skill

Train Catching by catching Pokemon. The Skill World has Type Zones, one dedicated area for each of the 18 types, where matching species spawn around you as you walk. Zone spawn levels scale with your Catching level, and each evolution stage has its own minimum level and cap.

Entering a Type Zone

There are 18 zones in the Skill World, one per type: Bug, Grass, Poison, Fairy, Steel, Water, Electric, Ghost, Fighting, Dragon, Ground, Rock, Fire, Dark, Psychic, Normal, Ice, and Flying.

To get in, talk to the Type Safari NPC at the zone hub, then right-click the NPC for the type you want. It teleports you into that type's zone. A Leave NPC inside each zone sends you back to the hub. There is no chat command for zones, you travel through the NPCs.

Once you are inside a zone, spawning is automatic. Just walk around and Pokemon of that type appear near you. Only species matching the zone's type spawn there.

Spawn levels

The level of what spawns is tied to your Catching level. Fresh evolution stages appear at low levels, and fully evolved Pokemon only start showing up once your Catching level is high enough to reach their minimum. If a Pokemon would roll above your current Catching level, it does not spawn, so a low-level trainer sees mostly early-stage, low-level Pokemon.

Evolution stage Minimum level Level cap
Single-stage Pokemon (no evolutions) 5 80
First stage of an evolution line 3 40
Middle stage its evolution level 55
Final evolution its evolution level 80

Within those bounds the exact level is random, capped by your Catching level.

Zone odds

Every spawn rolls for special variants. These are separate rarities, and the palette rolls (ghost, shiny, boss) are checked in that order so a single Pokemon is only ever one of them.

Roll Odds
Ghost 1 in 80,000
Shiny 1 in 15,000
Boss tier 1 in 250
Zone legendary 1 in 50,000 (requires Catching 70+)

The shiny rate shown is the base rate. A live server event can improve it.

Zone legendaries only appear once your Catching level is 70 or higher, and only in zones that have a legendary in their pool. When one is rolled it spawns at level 70. When a spawn rolls the boss tier, the tier itself is weighted: common 30 percent, uncommon 27 percent, rare 18 percent, epic 11 percent, legendary 8 percent, ultimate 6 percent.

Earning Catching XP

You gain Catching XP on every successful capture. The amount is not flat: harder-to-catch species and higher-level targets are worth more. On top of the base amount, several bonuses stack:

  • Legendary target: large bonus.
  • Shiny target: large bonus.
  • Caught in a Master Ball or Park Ball.
  • Situational catches: a Ground-type at Y 20 or below, a Dark-type at night, a Flying-type caught while you are airborne, a Water-type caught while in water, a Poison-type caught while you are poisoned, a target with a status condition, or a clean full-HP catch.

Missed throws give no XP. Prestiging a skill reduces the XP it earns afterward, so Catching XP shrinks as your Catching prestige climbs.
