Player Gyms

Player Gyms are 18 type-themed gyms around Spawn that players can claim, defend, and challenge each other for. Holding a gym earns Player Gym Points (PGP), which you spend in the gym shop.

How to access

Command What it does
/playergyms Open the gym directory and teleport to any gym
/pgtp <type> Teleport straight to a gym (for example /pgtp fire)
/pginfo List every gym, its current owner, and its bounty
/pgp Show your Player Gym Points and today's earnings (aliases /pgpoints, /playergympoints)
/playergymshop Open the PGP shop

Each gym is fronted by a gym NPC at Spawn. Everything you do (claiming, challenging, setting your team) happens by right-clicking that NPC.

The 18 gyms

There is one gym for each type. To own a gym you must present a legal mono-type team matching that gym's type. Challengers do not need a mono-type team, only a legal one that clears the battle rules below.

Three gyms carry an extra ban on top of the shared ruleset, blocking the specific content that would trivialize their type:

Gym Spawn location (x, y, z) Unique restrictions
Fire 808, 2, -302 None
Water 906, 7, -367 None
Grass 909, 41, -305 Heat Rock banned
Electric 796, 82, -178 None
Ground 774, 10, -222 None
Rock 822, 6, -245 Damp Rock banned
Ghost 925, 9, -248 None
Ice 862, 12, -416 Heat Rock and Stealth Rock banned
Psychic 863, 68, -254 None
Dark 616, 8, -302 None
Dragon 740, 37, -474 None
Fairy 869, 6, -185 None
Fighting 788, 35, -438 None
Poison 859, 7, -220 None
Steel 958, 1, -302 None
Bug 956, 6, -337 None
Normal 748, 35, -193 None
Flying 830, 34, -433 None

The unique bans apply to challengers and owners alike, on top of everything in the shared ruleset.

Gym battle rules

One competitive ruleset applies to every gym and to both sides of every gym battle. When you set or bring a team, the gym tells you exactly which member breaks which rule.

Species bans

These species cannot be on any gym team:

Arceus, Calyrex, Chi-Yu, Chien-Pao, Darkrai, Deoxys, Dialga, Ditto, Dracovish, Eternatus, Ferroseed, Ferrothorn, Gengar, Giratina, Glastrier, Groudon, Heatran, Ho-Oh, Hoopa, Koraidon, Kyogre, Kyurem, Landorus, Lugia, Lunala, Magearna, Melmetal, Mew, Mewtwo, Miraidon, Necrozma, Palkia, Rayquaza, Regieleki, Regigigas, Reshiram, Shedinja, Solgaleo, Spectrier, Thundurus, Tornadus, Urshifu, Wobbuffet, Xerneas, Yveltal, Zacian, Zamazenta, Zekrom, Zeraora, Zygarde.

Move bans

No gym team member may know any of these moves:

Category Banned moves
Evasion and accuracy Double Team, Minimize, Mud Slap, Muddy Water, Sand Attack, Flash, Swagger
One-hit KO Sheer Cold, Fissure, Horn Drill, Guillotine
Trade-down and punish Destiny Bond, Counter, Mirror Coat, Final Gambit, Endeavor, Pain Split, Perish Song
Forced switching Whirlwind, Roar, Dragon Tail, Circle Throw
Other Baton Pass, Shell Smash, King's Shield

The Ice Gym additionally bans Stealth Rock.

Ability bans

No gym team member may have any of these abilities:

Arena Trap, Iron Barbs, Magnet Pull, Moody, Perish Body, Rough Skin, Sand Veil, Shadow Tag, Snow Cloak, Tangled Feet.

Held item bans

Blazikenite, Salamencite, and King's Rock are banned everywhere. The Grass and Ice Gyms also ban the Heat Rock, and the Rock Gym bans the Damp Rock.

Owner-only rules

Gym owners must additionally satisfy:

  • Every team member has the gym's type (mono-type by typing, not species origin: a dual-type counts if one of its types matches).
  • Item clause: no two team members holding the same item.

Claiming a gym

Right-click an unclaimed gym NPC with a legal mono-type team. You become the owner, your team is copied onto the NPC, and the NPC takes on your appearance. If the gym had a bounty built up, you collect it as PGP right away.

Challenging a gym

Right-click a gym owned by someone else to challenge it. You can only have one challenge going at a time, and each gym can only have one challenger at a time.

  • If the owner is online, they get 10 minutes to come and defend in person.
  • If the owner is offline, you wait 2 minutes, then you get a 10-minute window to throw a Poke Ball at the gym NPC and battle its set team.
  • If the owner is nearby (within 20 blocks) you must battle them directly instead of the NPC.
  • Once a battle starts, you have 20 minutes to win.

Win and you take the gym. The old owner is put on a 6-hour cooldown, and you must right-click the NPC within 5 minutes to set your own legal team or the gym goes unclaimed. Setting that team grants 50 Battle Pass XP. Lose, flee, or forfeit and you go on a 6-hour cooldown before you can challenge that gym again.

Player Gym Points

Player Gym Points (PGP) are the gym currency.

  • Holding a gym while you are online earns 1 PGP every 30 minutes.
  • You can earn up to 400 PGP per day (resetting at midnight Eastern time).
  • While an owner is offline, their gym builds a bounty instead, gaining 1 point every 30 minutes up to 100. Whoever takes or claims that gym collects the bounty as PGP.
  • Each successful defense of your gym trims its bounty by 5.
