Fishing Skill

Train Fishing by casting a rod. Every reel rolls for a fish, an item, a Poke Ball, a Mystery Key, or a Pokemon, and each one pays Fishing XP. What you can catch, and how often the rare stuff shows up, both improve with your Fishing level.

Earning Fishing XP

Base fish pay a small amount, and 18 custom fish pay much more. Custom fish unlock in pairs as you level, and once unlocked a fish stays in your pool at every higher level.

Fishing level Fish unlocked Base XP range
0 Cod, Salmon, Tropical Fish, Pufferfish 25 to 100
15 Pumpkinseed, Shrimp 15 to 30
25 Anchovies, Mackerel 60 to 75
35 Herring, Lamprey 90 to 120
45 Pike, Trout 165 to 210
55 Bass, Lobster 270 to 345
65 Swordfish, Rainbowfish 375 to 450
75 Eel, Bullfish 525 to 600
85 Shark, Tuna 750 to 900
95 Anglerfish, Dragon Fish 1,050 to 1,260

Fish only bite in the right biome (Cod in oceans, Bass in rivers and swamps, Sharks in deep ocean, and so on). Fishing in the wrong biome reels up junk instead.

Reeling a Pokemon pays a base of max(50, 100 x (level / 10)) XP plus a size bonus, and unusually large catches award huge bonus XP (up to 1,000,000 for a 1 in 100,000 record-breaker). Gutting a caught fish by right-clicking it pays extra XP too, scaled by the fish's gutting multiplier.

Prestiging Fishing lowers the XP you earn afterward by 5 percent per prestige rank. Wearing Atlantis armor adds 2.5 percent Fishing XP per piece, 15 percent for the full set.

Fish by biome

Each fish only bites in certain biomes, so where you cast decides what you can reel in. This table lists every fish that lives in each biome. Remember that custom fish are also level-gated (see the unlock table above), so even in the right biome a fish will not bite until your Fishing level is high enough. Each biome links to its own page, which also lists the Pokemon you can hook there; each fish links to its biomes, cooking uses, and Compendium details.

Biome Fish
Cold Salmon, Cod, Herring, Trout
Beach Lobster, Shrimp
River Salmon, Bass, Herring, Lamprey, Pike, Pumpkinseed, Rainbowfish, Trout
Swamp Bass, Eel, Lamprey, Pike, Pumpkinseed
Warm Ocean Tropical Fish, Pufferfish, Rainbowfish
Ocean Cod, Anchovies, Bullfish, Lobster, Mackerel, Shrimp, Tuna
Deep Ocean Cod, Anglerfish, Dragon Fish, Eel, Shark, Swordfish, Tuna
Ultra Jungle Tropical Fish, Anglerfish, Bullfish, Dragon Fish, Eel, Pike, Rainbowfish

Fishing in a biome that has none of your unlocked fish reels up junk instead. For the full picture see the Fish and Fishing Biomes pages, and track your per-biome progress with the /fishingdex Fishing Compendium.

Where to train

Fishing sits on the east of the Skill World hub ring, with auto-fishing docks that let you level hands-off while you hold your cast. Dock reels pay by rarity tier, from Junk (250 XP) up to Rare Treasure (1,000 XP), with no level gate. See AFK Fishing for the full dock loot table and how it differs from rod fishing.

You can fish anywhere with water. Your per-biome catches are tracked in the /fishingdex Fishing Compendium.

The Fishing docks now share their Skill World area with Cooking: hook fish and cook them in the tavern. Every custom fish has a matching Campfire roast that pays Cooking XP and feeds your Pokemon.

Perks by level

Every Fishing perk unlocked from level 1 to 99, straight from the in-game progression menu. Each fish unlock stays in your pool at every higher level. Levels not listed grant no new perk.

Level Perk
1 Catch Salmon, Cod, Pufferfish, Tropical Fish
2 +6% fishing speed per level
5 3% chance for Mystery Keys and Random Balls
10 1/100 chance to reel in a Boss Pokemon

45 Catch Pike and Trout

From level 69 you can right-click open water while holding a caught fish to release it, earning 1/8 of its catch XP - upgraded to 1/4 by Fishing Prestige 2 and 1/2 by Prestige 6. The release spot needs the same ample open water a bobber needs before it can bite.

Rare reels can also fish up a Master Ball (about 1 in 333), and gutting a Pufferfish has its own Master Ball chance. Both are announced server-wide. Fish only bite in the right biome, so the level unlocks above only matter where that fish lives.

Prestige Perks

At level 99 you can prestige Fishing up to 10 times, earning one permanent perk per prestige. See the Fishing prestige table for context.

Prestige Perk
1 Fished-up Mystery Keys are Shiny 5% of the time
2 Releasing fish grants 1/4 of their catch XP (up from 1/8)
3 Gutting a Pufferfish gives a Master Ball 1 in 111 (normally 1 in 333)
4 Gutting fish gives double roe/caviar and double gutting XP
5 Fished-up Mystery Keys are Shiny 10% of the time
6 Releasing fish grants 1/2 of their catch XP
7 Pufferfish Master Balls are a Park Ball 20% of the time
8 Gutting fish gives four times roe/caviar and five times gutting XP
9 Fished-up Mystery Keys are Shiny 15% of the time
10 Fished-up Master Ball odds doubled (1 in 167) plus 10% become Park Balls
