Power Belt

A held item that promotes Defense gain in battle at the cost of Speed, and guarantees the holder's Defense IV passes down when breeding.

How to obtain

  • Sold in the Training And Breeding shop (/shop) for $25,000.
  • Found Chest loot (hidden chests across the overworld, Thieving skill).
  • Pickpocketed from NPCs (Thieving skill).
  • PokeLoot chest loot (Tier 3, Ultra Space chests).
  • Generated chest loot: pillager outpost.

Use in breeding

A parent holding a Power Belt guarantees its own Defense IV passes to the baby. The guaranteed stat counts against the number of randomly inherited IVs, so it stacks cleanly with a Destiny Knot on the other parent.

Scenario 1, locking one stat: your Ditto has a perfect 31 Defense IV but the rest of its stats are poor. Give the Ditto the Power Belt and breed it with anything: every egg is born with 31 Defense, no matter what the random inheritance rolls do.

Scenario 2, the classic combo: put the Power Belt on a parent with 31 Defense and a Destiny Knot on the other parent. The baby gets that guaranteed 31 Defense plus 4 more IVs drawn from the two parents, which is the fastest route to a 5x31 spread.

Quirk to avoid: if BOTH parents hold the same Power item, only the first parent's guarantee applies half the time, and the other half neither one counts. Give the two parents different items instead (for example Power Belt plus Everstone, or two different Power items).

Outside of breeding, the held item boosts the matching EV gain in battle at the cost of Speed, which is why it doubles as an EV-training tool.
