Pokemon Happiness¶
Happiness (also called friendship) is a hidden bond value every Pokemon carries, from 0 to 255. Species like Golbat, Riolu, Eevee (into Espeon, Umbreon and Sylveon) and Chansey will only evolve once their happiness is high enough: the standard "high friendship" gate is 220, though a few species set their own threshold. You can check a Pokemon's happiness on its summary screen.
Happiness matters beyond evolution:
- Return hits harder the happier the Pokemon is, and Frustration is the reverse.
- On Skyblock, a ranch Pokemon's happiness scales its produce rate (from x0.9 at zero up to x1.1 at max).
- A Poke Crystal carries happiness over untouched when its attributes are applied.
Raising happiness for your Pokemon¶
| Action | Happiness change |
|---|---|
| Level up | +5 (below 100), +3 (100 to 199), +2 (200+) |
| Level up, caught in a Luxury Ball | +1 on top of the level-up gain |
| Walking with it sent out beside you | +2 every 40 seconds (+1 once it reaches 200) |
| Eating a curry | +10 up to +75, by curry rating |
| EV-lowering berries (Pomeg, Kelpsy, Qualot, Hondew, Grepa, Tamato) | +10 (below 100), +5 (100 to 199), +2 (200+), see EV Juices |
| Vitamins (HP Up, Protein, Iron, Calcium, Zinc, Carbos) | +5 (below 100), +3 (100 to 199), +2 (200+) |
| Feeding it a Berry Juice | +4 |
| Caught in a Friend Ball | happiness set straight to 150 |
Two boosts to know about:
- A held Soothe Bell multiplies every happiness gain by x1.5.
- Catching in a Luxury Ball permanently adds the level-up bonus above.
And two ways to lose it: fainting in battle costs 1 happiness, and hitting your own sent-out Pokemon costs 20 (be kind out there).
The fastest practical route: catch in a Friend Ball or feed a strong curry to jump the early range, hand it a Soothe Bell, keep it sent out while you play, and level it. EV berries are a cheap top-up for the last stretch.
How trainers can obtain happiness¶
Happiness is not only for the Pokemon. Field-tested trainer methods on this server:
- Watching your first shiny break out of the ball.
- A quiet morning of fishing that ends with a jump-quality catch.
- Pulling the exact plushie your collection was missing.
- Opening a found chest in the wild and seeing a Master Ball inside.
- Cooking your first Golden Pizza, then eating it anyway instead of selling it.
- Your clan clearing a task with minutes to spare.
- Ray Ray at 100% happiness, doing his little dance while everyone's odds go up.
- Winning the lottery on the one ticket you almost did not buy.
Trainer happiness has no cap and no summary screen, but it stacks with everything above.
